Hans's Story

Yes, but it works!Hans is a PAWS rescue cat who had an anger management problem. We knew about his temperment, but we didn't know about his indoors urinating and marking habits. After a few years of care and lots of naps together, Hans has turned into quite the affectionate senior. His urinating problems persisted however. Initially, we came to Mud Bay to have a wide variety of litter and box styles to try, as well as for the great selection of food to boost his condition as he came to us underweight with a thin and wiry coat.
Staff helped us understand the types of litter and box styles available, and while Hans persisted in marking and urinating indoors, we did find a litter that our other cats really like and we like because of the great odor control and controlled tracking (Cat Country Regular). Since we noticed that Hans liked to claw his Phoenix upright wooden post almost every time he passed, we purchased another to place in front of the area he tended to mark thinking we could deflect his urine making behavior away from the furniture. This worked beautifully. Since Hans had a habit of weeing on paper left on the floor, we experimented to see if we could find a way to get him to use paper every time. Now, we have a large plastic dishrack mat with a flat paper bag on top next to the litter box and Hans urinates on the flat paper bag each and every time - no more pee on the carpet! |
